The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has not yet announced the date that it will begin accepting individual tax returns for the 2018 tax filing season for 2017 tax returns. As the IRS does every year, it’s continuing to update its programming and processing systems for the upcoming season.
Once you receive all your tax documents you can file, but your return will sit in the queue and not be accepted until the system is ready.
Your employer has until January 31, 2018 to send out W-2s for 2017 earnings, and most 1099 forms must also be sent to earners by that date.
If you’re expecting a refund because you claimed the Earned Income Tax Credit or the Additional Child Tax Credit, the IRS can’t issue your refund before February 15, 2018 regardless of when you file.
We’ll keep you updated when the IRS starts accepting tax returns!
